When your boss asks you to create a launch video with a one-minute tracking shot, multiple camera setups across two locations, and complete everything from shooting to editing in just one week, what do you say? After the initial shock wore off (and a gentle reminder about who signs the paychecks), I took on this ambitious challenge for our Eddie AI multicam launch video.

The Challenge

The project had three major components that worried me about the tight one-week deadline:

  1. Capturing a one-minute tracking shot
  2. Creating a multicam edit with a one-day turnaround
  3. Adding animations to the tracking shot

Here's how we tackled each challenge and how Eddie AI helped streamline the process.

Production Schedule

With no time for backup plans, we set an aggressive schedule:

  • Sunday: All video coverage, including the tracking shot
  • Monday: Complete multicam sequence
  • Tuesday: Rough cut assembly
  • Wednesday/Thursday: Animation and final touches

Mastering the One-Minute Tracking Shot

The tracking shot was our first priority on shooting day. Using a Sony A7C with a 24mm lens mounted on a DJI Ronin, we kept the setup lightweight to maintain stamina through multiple takes.

The shot involved several technical challenges:

  • Coordinating timing with talent delivery
  • Navigating stairs safely while maintaining smooth movement
  • Hitting precise marks for prop handoffs

After an hour of walkthrough rehearsals and 23 takes, we finally captured the perfect shot. The key was finding the right balance between camera movement and safety, especially during the stair sequence where I had to "fly blind" in a wide zone while watching my feet.

Accelerating the Multicam Edit with Eddie

This is where Eddie AI truly showed its value. For the second act, we shot a two-camera setup with teleprompter reading. Traditional multicam editing would have consumed an entire day, but Eddie transformed the process:

  1. Uploaded the two-camera footage to Eddie
  2. Eddie synced the cameras automatically in minutes
  3. Requested Eddie to create a rough cut using the best takes
  4. Used Eddie's share link feature to get team feedback
  5. Asked Eddie to create a more concise version
  6. Exported directly to Adobe Premiere

What would normally take a full day of syncing and selecting takes was accomplished in minutes, giving us extra time for animation.

Animation and Post-Production

With the time saved on editing, we had two full days for animation work. The goal was to show Eddie's background processing during the tracking shot sequence. The process involved:

  1. Creating assets in Photoshop
  2. Implementing 3D animations in After Effects
  3. Using pre-comps and motion tracking for seamless integration
  4. Adding drop shadows to blend animations with live action

Post-production wrapped up with color grading, audio work, and music selection.
